The Ertiga is a result of Maruti has painstakingly making sure that it can succeed by carefully moulding the MPV to suit the Indian tastes plus ‘MPV’ is the latest buzzword in the Indian auto industry as Nissan and Chevrolet and others are also planning to launch MPV’s.The result of that is that when the Ertiga went on sale in April 2012, it clocked up a massive 32,000 bookings in the first month but Maruti can only make about 6000 per month! The Ertiga looks much bigger in person than in pictures and the Swift influence is very much there. Don’t be surprised though as the Ertiga is based on the new Maruti Swift platform but it does have its own visual identity. The Ertiga’s dimensions look more like a big hatchback rather than a MPV.

Maruti is now looking to expand the Ertiga range with a CNG variant that will add even more value to this successful MPV. The CNG Ertiga will join the other small cars that have CNG in the Maruti range. The Ertiga is a MPV that has changed the market especially with its aggressive pricing. To recap the Ertiga has the multijet as well as a 1.4 litre K-Series petrol engine. The new petrol engine has 94 bhp while the 1.3 litre Multijet is able to produce 90 bhp.  Now the seven seater Ertiga will bode well with the practicalities of a CNG beacuse there is enough power in the engine and it will not be underpowered even fully laden with passengers. Thus the Ertiga will get even more sales and of course will be even more cheaper to run.
The Ertiga has an overall length of 4265 mm and an overall width of 1695 mm.

Step inside and immediately you get a sense that it is a spacious and an airy cabin. The light beige look to the interiors does help in that matter. As expected the interior design borrows heavily from the Swift but with a more upmarket look. Maruti has squeezed out a lot of space in the Ertiga. For starters the 6-way adjustable front seats are large and comfy with good headroom and legroom. The 2nd row is also comfortable with enough legroom and adequate thigh-support though three people at the back can be a bit of a squeeze. The Ertiga has two engine options, a new 1.4 litre petrol and a 1.3 litre diesel.

The petrol K-series engine makes 95 PS at 6000 rpm and has max torque of 130 Nm@4000 rpm. It feels punchy and eager to rev. At city speeds the engine feels good and performance delivery is fine but once you start putting in some speed it feels strained. The DDiS diesel engine makes 90 PS at 4000 rpm and has max torque of 200 Nm at 1750 rpm. At first there is some turbo-lag but once it frees up and the turbo spools up, the performance is very good and it is quite quick for a MPV. The Ertiga does impress with a figure of 16 kmpl for the petrol and 20 kmpl for the diesel, both being ARAI certified and certainly miles ahead of the other MUVs / MPVs. The suspension of the Ertiga features MacPherson Strut at the front and Torsion Beam at the rear. Thanks to a monocoque chassis both the ride and the handling are impressive.

The steering though was light but that will add to the car’s user friendliness as it will be easy to drive in traffic and while parking. The braking performance of the Ertiga also proved to be satisfactory as it has ABS with Brake Assist and EBD. The Ertiga has three variants each for diesel and petrol. The base LXi (P) and LDi (D) are priced at Rs 5.89 lakh and Rs 7.30 lakh, midway through the range the VXi (P) and the VDi (D) are priced at Rs 6.60 lakh and Rs 7.90 lakh and the top of the line ZXi (P) and ZDi (D) are priced at Rs 7.30 lakh and 8.45 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).  In our opinion the variant that makes the most sense is the VXi (P) and the VDi (D) variants as they are well equipped with features like the rear AC, radio/CD/USB player. Of course the ZXi (P) and ZDi (D) variants are the top of the line variants and have features like steering mounted audio controls and driver and passenger airbags. Whichever way you look at it the Ertiga is stunning value for money.
Maruti Ertiga Petrol Price
Maruti Ertiga LXi     Rs 5.99 Lakh
Maruti Ertiga VXi     Rs 6.70 Lakh
Maruti Ertiga ZXi     Rs 7.51 Lakh
Maruti Ertiga Diesel Price
Maruti Ertiga LDi     Rs 7.40 Lakh
Maruti Ertiga VDi     Rs 8.05 Lakh
Maruti Ertiga ZDi     Rs 8.71 Lakh

 Chevrolet- enjoy

SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile or the joint venture between General Motors and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) of China and Liuzhou Wuling Motors Co., Ltd is finally reaping its fruits for the Indian market. GM India has been extensively testing the Wuling Minivan in India and  now will launch it under the name Enjoy in May 2013. It is extensively modified for India including having a diesel engine. The exterior of the Enjoy is quite pleasant and the pictures use a red coloured car which looks good though the design is prettty much the usual MPV design fare though GM India has worked hard to make it more premium and we like the front of the car. The Enjoy is quite compact with a 4305mm length but a wheelbase of 2720mm is good for liberating space inside. When talking about what is on the inside, the Enjoy being a MPV prides on space and the top versions have two captain seats in the second row which are comfy while you get a bench in other versions. The third row is also pretty spacious plus there is also loads of headroom on the inside. The cabin does have design cues taken from other GM products.

The design of the dash or the steering is simple and nothing is futuristic but everything despite having an air of simplicity works well and is easy to use. The Enjoy will be launched in May sporting an aggressive price-tag. The Enjoy will be a crucial product and it will bridge the gap between the Maruti Ertiga and the Toyota Innova plus being more easier on the eye than the Nissan Evalia. The Enjoy will have a petrol and diesel engine with the bulk of the sales expected of the diesel. The Enjoy will be powered by the 1.3-litre multijet unit sourced from FIAT and will provide excellent economy coupled with good performance. The diesel is good for 76 bhp while the 1.4 petrol makes 103 bhp. You get a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Even with all three rows in place, there should be enough space for a few luggage bags. The Enjoy is the product of the SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile or the joint venture between General Motors and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) of China and Liuzhou Wuling Motors Co. Pricing is crucial and we expect a competitive price along or below the Maruti Ertiga. We feel this is a compact, honest and a spacious MPV that has potential. If priced well.

Ford knows this and with the EcoSport it aims to redefine the Indian market. It dazzled visitors at the 2012 Auto Expo in January Delhi and now with its global debut at the 2012 Auto China in Beijing means customers in India will also soon get a taste of this. Ford plans to build the compact, fuel-efficient urban SUV in China, in addition to India, Thailand and South America. Looks are the EcoSport's biggest asset and it simply looks unlike anything else. The design is muscular but also compact (it is sub-four metre SUV) and packs in a whole lot of details. The EcoSport which is based on the Fiesta platform is a shining example of the new Ford design language                                                                              The beltine for example which is formed by the windows and door creases, draws an ascending curve that rises as it runs to the rear of the car. The large trapezoidal grille is another characteristic of the Ford design DNA which gives the signature Ford face, like the other new global designs. More interesting details include inclined A pillars and a short hood. At the back, a large rear window that wraps around to the sides along with oblique tail-lamps. The swing gate handle is built into the tail-lamp and is another highlight of the Ford EcoSport's innovative design. The spare tyre, with an exclusively designed wheel, is mounted on the swing-out door. Step inside and the design of the interiors are influenced by the Fiesta sedan which is a no bad thing. It has the sporty looking centre console with neatly stacked buttons.
The design and overall quality feel also has been improved. On the features front expect a lot of equipment on the EcoSport such as a CD/MP3 player, USB/auxiliary slots, cooled glove box, steering controls, Smart Keyless Entry, rear parking sensors and Bluetooth. There is also the neat voice control feature. The talking point in the EcoSport is the all-new 1.0-litre, three-cylinder EcoBoost engine which will be economical plus will be fun to drive and is set to change the way we think about small engines. Ford says that the turbocharged 1 litre EcoBoost can compete with a traditional 1.6 litre petrol engine, delivering full torque at just 1500rpm. This engine makes 120PS and 170Nm which is ample by any standards. But a diesel is important and the EcoSport will feature a 1.5 diesel from the Fiesta sedan which will be torquey and fun to drive. The EcoSport Petrol promises 16 kmpl. We expect the petrol base variant to start from Rs 7 lakhs and go all the way to Rs 9-9.5 lakhs for the top diesel model. The EcoSport is the most important launch for Ford and looking at the success of the Renault Duster, the EcoSport is destined to be a huge hit on the basis of what we have seen. The EcoSport will be available in 4 variants and in 8 colour options

   Honda amaze
The  first diesel engine of honda for the Indian market comes in the form of the Amaze sedan. Based on the Brio hatchback, the Amaze has been designed to meet the small car norms of being under 4m in length.
  Overall Length  -   3990mm
Overall Width   -  1680mm
Overall Height  -   1505mm
Wheel Base   -  2405mm
Ground Clearance  -   165mm
Boot Space   -  400Liters
Kerb Weight   -  950Kg
Fuel Tank Capacity  -   35Liters
Seating Capacity   -  5

This lets the car enjoy small car tax benefits and hence can be priced in the same range as the Maruti Dzire, its direct rival. Due for launch in April/May 2013, the Amaze will compete in the entry level sedan market and will come with both a 1.2-litre petrol and an all-new 1.5-litre diesel engine. Looks wise, the Amaze is more or less a Brio with an added boot. However, the wheelbase has been increased for more cabin space and the boot looks neatly integrated into the body. The end result is a pleasing looking sedan with the rear tail lamps hinting at design cues taken from the City sedan. The front looks same as the Brio with the only changes being the grille and the bumper. Side profile of the car is also sporty with two strong shoulder lines running from each end (front and rear), finishing in parallel in the front door.

The Amaze wears 14-inch wheels shod with 175/65 tyres and ofcourse, the top end versions get alloy wheels. The Amaze is made with an aim of providing a very comfortable drive for 5 adults. With an increased wheelbase over the Brio, the Amaze actually provides amazing interiors space. We drove the car with a 6 feet tall person up front in the driver's seat and yet, a similar sized person could easily sit at the rear. We can safely say that the cabin space will better the Dzire and same goes for the surprisingly spacious boot as well. Design of the fascia remains same though Honda might change the color theme inside. Rear passengers also get a central arm-rest with cup-holders while the almost flat rear floor means seating three abreast will not call for problems!
The Honda Amaze, when launched in April-May 2013, will get both a 1.2-litre petrol engine (which does duty on the Brio and the Jazz) and an all-new 1.5-litre iDTEC engine as well. Now this engine is the world’s lightest 1.5-litre diesel motor and thankfully, Honda has tuned it perfectly well for Indian roads. They studied data across various metros and noticed the driving pattern of car owners. This has resulted in an engine that responds terrifically well to driver’s inputs at low RPMs. Infact, the car pulls neatly from under 1500rpm, all the way to 3000rpm. The trump card here is the diesel engine - the 1.5-litre engine not only puts out class leading power of 100Bhp, it is also makes the Amaze the most efficient car across all the segments in India with an ARAI rated economy of 25.8kmpl! With over 30% more power than the Dzire, it also beats the Maruti offering on acceleration and top speed!

Gearing is spot on for both city and highway use with 2000rpm coming up at 85-90 in 5th gear. 2nd gear is good for 70ish which does hint at a slightly shorter gearing for better punch during city driving.  Overall NVH levels were impressive considering this was a prototype. Infact, day temperatures were as low as 8-9 degrees and even with the engine cold, diesel clatter was well controlled. The Brio is a lovely car to drive in city and the Amaze is no different. Infact, the overall weight difference between a petrol Brio and a diesel Amaze (the one we drove) isn’t much and hence the car hasn’t lost its agile nature. Steering is light with enough feedback and the track we drove on allowed for a few cornering antics which did reveal that the Amaze will be a delight to drive fast. We cant say much about the suspension over bad roads though – wait for  a few more months for this one. The Brio hatchback starts at just over 4 lac (ex-showroom Delhi) and as the Amaze falls under the small car norms (under 4m in length), it will surely enjoy tax benefits, translating into an ex-showroom price of under Rs 5 lac for the petrol and under Rs 6 lac for the diesel. At this price, it certainly is a genuine winner given all the right boxes it ticks. Further, it comes backed with Honda’s brand name and strong re-sale value in the market.

It definitely has something new to offer in terms of power, performance, looks and the price too. Though Honda City was successful in India, it did not totally satisfy the mileage conscious Indian automobile customers who would rather prefer a diesel engine. Honda City was however not launched in a diesel version but to cater the demand of the customers, Honda offered the same with the Honda Amaze. It launched this vehicle specifically with the Indian demographic in mind and hence it was designed in different variants to cater all the requirements of the customers who can choose their vehicle based on parameters such the fuel type, the additional enhancements such as keyless entry, anti lock braking system, electric brake force distribution, etc., The rather important part however remains the diesel engine option because by far this might be the most fuel efficient engine offered by an automobile in its segment, at least as far as Indian automobile industry is concerned. It is also important to note that it does not often too often that a vehicle in the compact sedan segment is offered in such a wide variant range. The variants are listed and classified based on the transmission system and fuel type. Honda Amaze Petrol E manual transmission, Honda Amaze Petrol EX manual transmission, Honda Amaze Petrol S manual transmission, Honda Amaze Petrol S automatic transmission, Honda Amaze Petrol VX manual transmission, Honda Amaze Petrol VX automatic transmission , While the Diesel variants are further classified as Honda Amaze Diesel E manual transmission, Honda Amaze Diesel EX manual transmission, Honda Amaze Diesel S manual transmission, Honda Amaze Diesel VX manual transmission. Though a few vehicles ventured into offering automatic transmission for economic versions of the Indian automobile, very few of them actually offer an efficient transmission system which is devoid of any lags, bugs and minor glitches. Honda Amaze is indeed amazing in this department with its innovative five speed auto transmission system.
Honda Amaze is offered in two different engine variants which are equally competent in their own market. The vehicle is capable of producing enough power to carry on the entire automobile industry through new directions. More importantly, the diesel engine which is dubbed as i-DTEC engine is an innovation in the true sense. Diesel engines are not part of the major engineering advancements over years compared to their petrol siblings. Honda took the stand to create an efficient engine which can compete with the petrol counterparts and even offer better performance than them. The Honda Earth Dreams engine does the same job completely smooth. The vehicle is designed to be highly fuel efficient so that the purpose of introducing a diesel engine for the Indian automobile customers truly serves its purpose. The manual transmission system and automatic transmission system of the Honda Amaze are capable of producing different mileages due to certain technical mechanisms. The petrol versions of the Honda Amaze can run at a mileage of 18.0kmpl for the manual transmission versions and 15.5kmpl for the automatic transmission versions. This mileage in a petrol car is really a surprising effort by any manufacturer and that too for this particular compact sedan segment. The diesel versions however offer a slightly bigger mileage which is basically obvious in the automobile industry that diesel is superior to petrol in terms of fuel economy. The diesel engine manual transmission variants bring out an amazing mileage of 25.8kmpl which is exceptionally impressive.

The Honda Amaze hits the right notes in terms of handling and safety. Though the vehicle comes with a 165mm ground clearance it turns up useless if the vehicle fails to offer the level of safety required. Honda Amaze comes with McPherson Strut suspension in the front and torsion beam suspension in the rear. This is a perfect pack for offering a smooth drive. The vehicle comes with ABS, EBD, engine immobiliser, fog lamps, keyless entry system and the central locking all of which are distributed in several models . The high end VX version however comes with front dual SRS airbags which offer a really promising safety provision for the vehicle.
